BINGHAMTON HOLDS OFF LE MOYNE 66-55 IN WOMEN'S BASKETBALL EXHIBITION
VESTAL, N.Y. - Sophomore transfer Katie Dunn (Whippany, N.J./Morris Catholic) scored a game-high 18 points, but Binghamton held off Le Moyne 66-55 in a women's basketball exhibition at the Binghamton University Events Center. The host Bearcats of the Division I America East Conference were forced into 24 turnovers, but never trailed in the contest.
Dunn, a transfer from Holy Family University, made 6-of-11 shots from the field and 4-of-7 from 3-point range for her 18 points. Freshman Megan Murphy (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Millbrook) joined Dunn in double figures with 10 points. The Dolphins shot 37.7% (20-for-53) from the field and 7-of-20 (35%) from 3-point range.
Binghamton used a sizable advantage on the glass for a 37-22 edge in rebounds and made 17-of-28 (60.7%) free throws while Le Moyne made 8-of-14 (57.1%)
Dunn scored a game-high 13 points in the opening half. She made 4-of-7 shots from the field and 3-of-5 from behind the 3-point arc. Le Moyne fell behind early as the Bearcats opened up a 13-point lead in the first half, but the Dolphins rallied to pull within six at 37-31 heading into the intermission.
The Dolphins scored six of the first seven points in the second half to pull within one, 39-38 with 16:22 remaining in the contest. The Dolphins were within two as late as the 4:15 mark at 55-53.
Le Moyne opens the 2006-07 season on November 15 at home against Mercyhurst. Tip time is set for 6 p.m.
