WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: REGULAR SEASON CHAMPION SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT DOWNS LE MOYNE 70-38
NEW HAVEN, CONN. – Shamika Jackson and
Aminah-Joy Jones scored 11 points each to lead No.
19 Southern Connecticut to a 70-38 win over Le Moyne in the
Northeast-10 Conference regular season finale for both teams. The
Owls (24-3, 19-3 Northeast-10) have clinched the Northeast-10
Conference regular season championship, while Le Moyne (11-16, 7-15
Northeast-10) enters the conference tournament as the No. 11
seed.
Southern Connecticut held Le Moyne without a field goal for the
first 15 minutes of the game. The Owls led 23-9 before freshman
Cierra Bartell (Middletown, Conn./Middletown)
netted Le Moyne’s first two field goals on back-to-back
possessions.
Southern Connecticut has won nine straight games and 21 of their last 22 games. The Owls limited Le Moyne to just 26.3% (10/38) from the field. Sophomore Kim Wagoner (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) scored 13 points to lead Le Moyne. The 38 points marked Le Moyne’s lowest output since a 65-31 home loss to Southern Connecticut on Feb. 24, 2004.
The Dolphins will travel to the No. 6 seed for the first round of the Northeast-10 Conference tournament. Conference play concludes Tuesday night.
