VB: UMASS LOWELL DEFEATS LE MOYNE, 3-0, IN NE-10 PLAY

Lowell, Mass. - Middle Hitter Sarah Coscia slammed down 12 kills and posted four blocks to lead UMass Lowell to a 3-0 Northeast-10 Conference win over the Le Moyne College volleyball team on Sunday afternoon at the Costello Athletic Center.

The River Hawks jumped out to a 10-4 lead to open the first game. After Le Moyne closed its deficit to 11-10, UMass Lowell went on a 9-2 run to take control of the game. The two squads traded points with Elsa LeGrand landing a kill to give the River Hawks a 25-17 victory.

In the second set, UMass Lowell built a 12-5 lead en route to a 25-19 victory. Behind the serve of freshman Allison Hebel (Greenlawn, N.Y./Harborfields) the Dolphins closed to within 16-13. After back-and-forth play led to a 21-18 lead for the River Hawks, UMass Lowell scored four of the game's final five points to take the game.

The River Hawks completed the sweep with a 25-21 win in the third set. After falling behind 10-8, UMass Lowell took the lead for good with five straight points behind the serve of Ashlee Scott. They extended their lead to a game-high six points (20-14) on an attack error by the Dolphins. Le Moyne answered back with a 7-4 run to keep the match alive, but LeGrand ended the comeback-attempt with her seventh kill of the afternoon.

Senior outside hitter Elizabeth Cheek (Huntington Beach, Calif./Rosary) led the Dolphins with 10 kills and five digs, while freshman middle hitter Morgan McDermott (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) landed seven kills and posted a pair of blocks. Senior setter Kaylin Brainerd (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) dished out 15 assists and had nine digs, while classmate Lindsey Gleason (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) posted 12 digs in the setback.

Le Moyne (10-4, NE-10 2-2) returns to action on Wednesday against The College of Saint Rose at 7:00 p.m. The match will be streamed live at www.lemoynedolphins.tv.
