VB: DOLPHINS WRAP UP UNDEFEATED WEEKEND WITH 3-0 WIN AT HOLY
FAMILY
Philadelphia, Pa. - Freshman Allison Hebel (Greenlawn,
N.Y./Harborfields) registered eight kills and four digs to
lead Le Moyne College to a 3-0 victory over Holy Family University
in non-conference volleyball action on Sunday morning at the Campus
Center.
Following a 6-6 tie early in the first game, Holy Family went on a
5-1 run to open its largest lead of the game. The Dolphins bounced
back with 12 of the next 16 points to take control of the game. Le
Moyne got seven points in the stretch on the serve of Hebel,
including a service ace to cap the run. The two teams split the
next 12 points as the Dolphins took the game, 25-21.
The second game was a back-and-forth battle with neither team being
able to open more than a three-point advantage leading to a 27-25
win for the Dolphins. After a 25-25 tie, senior Elizabeth
Cheek (Huntington Beach, Calif./Rosary) and freshman
Morgan McDermott (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) set
up game-point with a block on an attack attempt by Katie Hornback.
Junior Krista Prentice (Amherst, N.Y./Sweet Home)
closed out the game with a block on an attempt by Kelsey Ross.
In the third game, the Dolphins cruised to a 25-18 victory to seal
the match. Le Moyne opened up leads of 13-4, 19-9 and 24-16 before
closing out the match. McDermott and Hebel led the Dolphins in the
game with three kills each, while Le Moyne also benefited from
eight Holy Family attack errors and three service errors.
Cheek finished the match with seven kills, six digs and combined on
five blocks, while McDermott registered six kills and five blocks.
Senior setter Kaylin Brainerd (Liverpool,
N.Y./Liverpool) dished out 19 assists and recorded four
digs.
Le Moyne (8-2), which is off to its best start since 2005, opens
Northeast-10 Conference play on Wednesday at American International
at 7:00 p.m. The Yellow Jackets defeated the Dolphins, 3-0, last
Sunday during the Le Moyne College Invitational.
