DOLPHINS FALL TO NEW HAVEN IN FIRST ROUND OF NE-10
TOURNAMENT
PLEASANTVILLE, NY – Brittani Cotton (East Patchogue,
N.Y./Bellport H.S.) and Elizabeth Akinbiyi (Miami
Gardens, FL/Chaminade-Madonna Prep.) each tallied 11 kills
to lead the top seeded New Haven Chargers over Le Moyne 3-0 in the
first round of the Northeast-10 Conference tournament held on the
campus of Pace University. With the loss, the Dolphins wrap up
their 2008 campaign with a winning record of 14-13, 7-7 in the
conference. The Chargers move to 26-3 on the season.
New Haven captured game one by the score of 25-16. With the score
tied at 11-11 midway through the game, the Chargers out scored the
Dolphins 14-5 to close out the game. The Dolphins rallied in game
two by taking a 9-5 advantage following a kill by Kristin
Cobb (Cincinnatus, N.Y. / Cincinnatus). Behind the service
of Sara Malmlov (Lindesberg, Sweden/Sheridan
College), the Chargers reeled off 15 consecutive points to
take a commanding 10-point advantage in winning the second game
25-13. Tied midway through the third game, New Haven would once
again pull away to claim the deciding game 25-16.
Senior Jodi Smith (Angola, NY / Eden) led the way
for the Dolphins with seven kills and four digs. Krista
Prentice (Amherst, NY /Sweet Home) added six kills and
Kaylin Brainerd (Liverpool, NY / Liverpool) dished
out 19 assists.
The Northeast-10 Conference tournament continues on Saturday with
two semifinal matches and the championship game. For more
