VBALL: JODI SMITH LEADS DOLPHINS TO 3-0 SWEEP AT SAINT ROSE
Albany, N.Y. - Senior Jodi Smith (Angola, N.Y./Eden) registered 11 kills to lead the Le Moyne College volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of Saint Rose in Northeast-10 Conference action at Nolan Gymnasium on Wednesday night.
Le Moyne opened the match with a 25-16 victory in the first game. Senior middle hitter Caitlin Richardson (Victor, N.Y./Victor) led the Dolphins in the game with four kills and a solo block.
In the second game, the Dolphins responded from a 16-14 deficit midway through the game to win 25-22. Junior outside hitter Elizabeth Cheek (Huntington Beach, Calif./Rosary) posted four kills in the game, while Smith recorded four digs.
Following a 9-9 tie early in the third game, Le Moyne went on a 7-2 run en route to a 25-19 victory to close out the match. Richardson registered the final three points of the match, including a pair of service aces to complete the sweep. Smith landed a game-high six kills, while Cheek added six digs.
Smith added nine digs and a service ace to her match-high 11 kills. Cheek, Richardson and sophomore Krista Prentice (Amherst, N.Y./Sweet Home) each landed eight kills for the Dolphins, while Cheek also added a team-high 12 digs. Junior setter Kaylin Brainerd (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) registered 33 assists in the match, reaching the 30-assist plateau for the ninth consecutive match. Smith and junior libero Lindsey Gleason (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) each recorded nine digs in the match.
Le Moyne (13-10, NE-10 6-5) returns to action at Ted Grant Court on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. against Pace University.
