CHEEK AND PRENTICE LEAD DOLPHINS PAST ST. ANSELM 3-1

Manchester, N.H. - Junior Elizabeth Cheek (Huntington Beach, Calif./Rosary) and sophomore Krista Prentice (Amherst, N.Y./Sweet Home) posted double-doubles to lead the Le Moyne College volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Saint Anselm on Sunday, Oct. 5 at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.

In the opening set, the Hawks jumped out to a 15-8 lead en route to a 25-19 victory. The Dolphins pulled to within 21-17 on a service ace by junior libero Lindsey Gleason (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier), but the Hawks scored four of the final six points to take the set. Cheek led the Dolphins in the set with five kills, while junior setter Kaylin Brainerd (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) posted 10 assists.

In the second set, Le Moyne turned a 10-8 deficit into an 18-11 lead on the way to a 25-15 victory. After a bad set by Saint Anselm made the score at 10-9, senior Caitlin Richardson (Victor, N.Y./Victor) served for five points and served for three points to give the Dolphins a seven point lead. Senior Kristin Cobb (Cincinnatus, N.Y./Cincinnatus) closed out the set with a kill off an assist from Richardson.

After falling behind 13-10 in the third set, Cheek landed a kill off an assist from Brainerd and rattled off five points on serve to give the Dolphins a 16-13 advantage. Sophomore Amanda Kershner (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) tallied the final point of the match with a kill off an assist by Brainerd to give the Dolphins a 25-17 victory.

In the fourth set, Brainerd rallied Le Moyne from a 19-15 deficit with four points on serve to knot the score at 19 apiece. After a bad set attempt gave the Hawks a 20-19 lead, Le Moyne went on a 6-2 run to take the set 25-22. Richardson capped the set with a kill off a feed from Brainerd.

Cheek led the Dolphins with 17 kills, while also posting 15 digs and a service ace. Prentice registered a match-high 19 digs, along with 10 kills, four assists and two service aces. Brainerd dished out 43 assists and recorded 12 digs, while Cobb posted a season-high 11 kills and Gleason registered 10 digs in the contest.

Le Moyne (11-6, NE-10 4-2), which has won six consecutive matches, returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 9 in Springfield, Mass. against American International at 7:00 p.m.
