RICHARDSON LEADS LE MOYNE TO THREE-SET VICTORY OVER
DOMINICAN
Orangeburg, NY - Senior middle hitter
Caitlin Richardson (Victor, N.Y./Victor) recorded
eight kills and three aces to lead the Le Moyne College volleyball
team to a 3-0 sweep of Dominican on Sunday, Sept. 7 on Coach Baxter
Court at the Hennessy Center. The Dolphins took the match by scores
of 25-17, 25-12 and 25-16.
With the score tied 4-4 in the opening set, the Dolphins rattled
off six straight points behind the serve of senior outside hitter
Jodi Smith (Angola,
N.Y./Eden) en route to taking the set 25-17.
In he second set, the Dolphins opened up a 9-2 lead with eight
consecutive points off the serve of junior libero Lindsay
Gleason (Hamburg,
N.Y./Frontier). Junior all-conference outside hitter
Elizabeth Cheek (Huntington
Beach,
Calif./Rosary) served for three
points late in the set as Le Moyne registered a 25-12 win.
After falling behind 9-4 in the third set, Smith gave the Dolphins
an 11-9 lead off her serve with seven straight points. After Cheek
recorded a kill to give Le Moyne a 16-14 lead, she served for eight
points, including six service aces, to bring the Dolphins to match
point. Freshman middle hitter Allie Claflin
(Ontario, N.Y./Wayne)
finished off the match with a kill off an assist by junior setter
Kaylin Brainerd
(Liverpool,
N.Y./Liverpool).
Richardson recorded a match-high eight kills to go along with
three blocks, while Cheek added seven kills to her six service
aces. Sophomore Krista Prentice
(Amherst, N.Y./Sweet
Home) added six kills and Smith had five kills, eight digs
and five service aces. Brainerd registered 25 assists and a
pair of service aces.
Le Moyne (2-3) returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 13 and Sunday,
Sept. 14 as they host the five-team Le Moyne College
Invitational.
