LE MOYNE TAKES FIRST TWO GAMES BUT FALLS TO MERRIMACK IN FIVE
NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Merrimack women’s volleyball
team, ranked third in the Northeast-10 Conference and eighth in the
Northeast region, stormed back from two games down to defeat Le
Moyne College 3-2 Saturday afternoon on Senior Day in the Volpe
Gym.
Merrimack won the final three sets, including 15-13 in the
tie-breaking fifth game.
The Dolphins edged Merrimack 30-27 in the first two games, but the
Warriors stormed back winning the third game big 30-18.
In the fourth game with the Warriors leading 19-18, they caught
fire, scoring six of the next eight points thanks to solid hitting
and forced the fifth game.
The Warriors started strongly in the fifth game, behind numerous
kills from Molly Cindric and solid defense from Alyssa Pickert
leading 6-2 and 11-6, but the Dolphins did not quit as they tied it
at 13. Behind kills from Lisa Barr and Kristin Applegate, the
Warriors finished the game off and escaped with the 3-2
victory.
The Dolphins were led by Elizabeth Cheek who contributed 24 kills
and 28 digs. Freshman Krista Prentice chipped in with 13 kills, 4
blocks and 9 digs. Jodi Smith recorded a double-double with 12
kills and 11 digs. Caitlin Richardson chipped in with 11 kills and
Kaylin Brainerd dished out 64 assists.
The Dolphins are back in action on Saturday, October 27th as
they host St. Anselm at noon.
