Colchester, Vt. – Junior lefty Sarah Harrison (Canandaigua, N.Y./Cobleskill-Richmondville) had 20 strikeouts and senior third baseman Fran Kiernan (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) had four hits to lead the Le Moyne College softball team to a sweep of Saint Michael's College on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Doc Jacobs Field. The Dolphins won the opener, 6-2, and recorded a 2-0 victory in the nightcap.

The Dolphins got on the scoreboard first with a run on one hit in the top of the second inning. Kiernan led off with a single down the right field line and then moved to second as freshman designated player Meaghan Polge (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) was hit by a pitch. After left fielder Stephanie Ostrander (Gansevoort, N.Y./Schuylerville) walked to load the bases, Kiernan raced home on a wild pitch.

The Purple Knights evened the score in the bottom of the inning on two hits. Pitcher Stephanie Frank led off with a triple to right field and came in to score on a two-out single up the middle by first baseman Lindsay Houston.

Le Moyne regained the lead in the top of the third on a lead-off home run to left center by senior center fielder Demetra Kermidas (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley).

The Dolphins blew the game open with four runs on four hits and two Saint Michael's errors in the fifth inning. Kermidas led off with a triple down the right field line and then scored as Harrison reached on a fielding error by the second baseman. Following a single through the right side by freshman shortstop Kirsten Trotta (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. Dupont) and a pair of outs, Ostrander singled to right field to drive in pinch-runner Sarah Tram (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) and Trotta. Freshman first baseman Cara Cawley (Endwell, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) then singled up the middle to plate Ostrander from third.

Saint Michael's scored an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh to complete the game's scoring. Second baseman Amanda Brigante led off with a single up the middle and took second on a fielding error by the center fielder. After moving to third on a groundout, Brigante scored on a sacrifice fly to right field by Frank.

Harrison earned her sixth win of the year after striking out nine batters over five innings in the circle, while yielding one run on five hits. Frank took the loss after giving up six runs (three earned) on nine hits over seven innings.

In the nightcap, the Dolphins got the only run they would need on a lead-off home run from Kiernan in the second inning.

Le Moyne added an insurance run on three hits in the third inning. Freshman right fielder Allison Reynolds (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) led off the frame with a single to the shortstop and then stole second base. After a pop out and a single through the left side by Harrison, Trotta singled to right center to knock in Reynolds.

Harrison struck out 11 batters, while allowing just two hits and one walk, in recording her third shutout of the season. Reynolds, Trotta and Kiernan each had two hits in the win. Laura McCormack took the loss after giving up two runs on seven hits over two and one-third innings pitched.

Le Moyne (7-11, 5-4 NE-10), which has won three straight games, returns to the diamond on Sunday at Saint Anselm at 11:00 a.m.
