CHAMPIONSHIPS
Indianapolis, Ind. - After winning the Northeast-10 Conference
Championship on Sunday afternoon, the Le Moyne College softball
team has been rewarded with the No. 1 seed in the East Region and
will host this upcoming weekend's regional, as announced by the
NCAA Division II Softball Committee on Monday morning.
The four-team double-elimination sub-regional will consist of the
host Dolphins, fourth-
seeded Caldwell (35-16-2), fifth-seeded Dowling (33-18) and
eighth-seeded Dominican (39-14). The bottom half of the East
Regional, to be played at C.W. Post in Brookville, N.Y., will
feature the No. 2 seed Pioneers, third-seeded Georgian Court, No. 6
seed Southern Connecticut State and seventh-seeded New Haven.
The Dolphins, who will be hosting their first NCAA Regional since
2005, topped Southern Connecticut State, 3-0, on Sunday in the
Northeast-10 Conference Championship game to secure the
conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Dolphins
will open play on Friday, May 8 against Dominican. The match-up
will be only the second ever between the two programs, with the
Dolphins defeating the Chargers, 10-2, on February 29, 2004 in
Orlando, Fla.
Le Moyne, which has won its last nine games and 17 of its last 18
contests and reached the 40-win plateau for the second straight
season and fourth time in the program's history, is led offensively
by Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year Jennifer
Farrelly (Latham, N.Y./Shaker). Farrelly has a .379

starting lineup. Cashel has registered five doubles, three home

hit .533 (8-15) in the tournament and leads the conference in
doubles (17), runs scored (39) and has set a new program record
with 24 stolen bases.
In the pitcher's circle, First Team all-Conference selection
All-Championship team pitcher Jenna Vanacore (Hicksville,
N.Y./Holy Trinity) is 19-3 and has registered a 0.88
earned run average, tops in the conference and 11th among national
leaders. Vanacore has struck out 151 batters over 136 innings,
while tossing 15 complete games and posting a team-best nine
shutouts. Farrelly has recorded a 17-4 record with a 1.21 ERA and
129 strikeouts in 151 innings pitched.
The winners of each sub-regional will advance to play in a
