SBALL: DOLPHINS OPEN '09 CAMPAIGN WITH TWO WINS AT REBEL GAMES

KISSIMMEE, FL - The Le Moyne Dolphins softball team opened their 2009 season with a pair of victories at the Rebel Games in Kissimee, Florida. The Dolphins defeated Wilmington (DE) 10-2 in six innings and topped Holy Family 8-0 in five innings. The two victories marked the first wins at Le Moyne by first-year head coach Tina Plew-Whitlock.

In game one, the Dolphins were led by a balanced offensive attack that saw each starter record at least one hit. The Dolphins were paced by junior Bailey Phillips (Rochester, NY / Greece-Arcadia) who connected for three hits in four plate appearances. Danielle VanGorder (Vestal, NY / Vestal), Caitlin O'Neill (Pittsford, NY / Our Lady of Mercy), Kelly Schweikert (Rochester, NY / Spencerport) and Leah Ford (Pulaski, NY / Pulaski) each collected two hits each to help defeat Wilmington via the mercy rule.  Sophomore Jenna Vanacore (Hicksville, NY / Holy Trinity) struck out 10 batters in recording the win in the circle.

Senior Jennifer Farrelly (Latham, NY / Shaker) led the Dolpins in game two as the Dolphins defeated Holy Family via the mercy rule 8-0.  At the plate, Farrelly was 2-3 with a home run and four RBI's. In the circle, she allowed only two hits through five innings to earn the win.  Schweikert and Phillips each added two hits to pace the eight-hit attack for the ‘Phins.

The Dolphins return to action on Sunday as they face Concordia-St. Paul at 3:00 PM and Wheeling Jesuit at 5:00 PM.
