DOLPHINS SWEEP DOWLING 4-2 & 3-2; VANACORE PICKS UP FIRST CAREER VICTORY.

BROOKHAVEN, NY - The Le Moyne College softball team improved to 8-6 on the season behind two victories over Dowling on Saturday. In game one, the Dolphins used a stellar pitching performance by freshman Jenna Vanacore to defeat the Golden Lions 4-2. Le Moyne used extra innings in game two, as they were victorious 3-2 in nine innings.

In game one, Jenna Vanacore pitched a complete game, seven-hitter as she led the Dolphins to a 4-2 victory over Dowling. The freshman struck out 10 and only allowed two runs on four hits. Emma Murphy supplied the offensive power as she connected for a two-run home run in the sixth inning to give the Dolphins the lead for good. Kelly Schweikert added two hits and two runs scored.

The second game saw both clubs scratch for run in the first inning. Le Moyne would jump out in front 2-1 in the fifth innings as Caitlin O’Neill used one of her three hits in the game to plate senior Sarah Reed. The Golden Lions would tie the game in the bottom half of the seventh on a solo home run by Gallagher. Le Moyne would scratch together a run in the top half of the ninth as Danielle VanGorder would score from third base on a groundout by Schweikert. Reed would pitch the final 2.2 innings, including a scoreless ninth, to earn her third victory of the season.

Le Moyne returns to action on Monday, March 24th as they travel to Molloy for a doubleheader.
