LE MOYNE SPLITS ANOTHER DOUBLE HEADER AT THE REBEL GAMES
March 7, 2008
Kissimmee, FL.- The first game of the day Le Moyne played Urbana
and defeated them 9-1 in five innings of play. Defeating Urbana by
the mercy rule Le Moyne shows their power on the field. The
Dolphins second game of the day was a disappointment as they fell
to Lake Superior State 7-3.
Starting out strong, Le Moyne plated two runs by Sarah Reeds double
to centerfield. The Dolphins defense would use their momentum to
silence Urbana’s bats retiring them early in the first. In
the second Le Moyne would keep the bats swinging with Bailey
Phillips double down the left field line to plate another run for
the Dolphins. They would score once more in the second when
Reed’s single to left center would bring in a run making the
score 4-0. Three quick outs by Caylinn Christophersen pitching and
the Dolphins defense would shut down Urbana’s bats for the
second inning in a row. In the third inning the Dolphins would
bring in three more runs on Caitlin O’Neill’s single to
leftcenter, Kelly Schweikert’s single to centerfield, and
Phillips single to center. The Dolphins would now extend the lead
putting Urbana behind 6-0. Urbana’s bats would show some life
in the fourth scoring a single run putting them on the board. In
the fifth Le Moyne would close the door by scoring two more runs
ending the game by the mercy rule 9-1.
Christophersen would take the win for the Dolphins with her five
innings of pitching. Throwing six strike outs and only allowing
three hits Christophersen would prove to be a major contributor the
Dolphins defense. Reed’s bat brought in five of the nine
RBI’s and had three hits against Urbana’s pitching.
Kelly Schweikert, and Danielle Van Gorder would also contribute
with three hits for the team. Kim Baker made her mark as she led in
put-outs with six.
The second game of the day the Dolphins fell to Lake Superior State
by a score of 7-3. The Dolphins would come out hard taking the lead
early scoring three runs. The Dolphins would hold this lead until
the seventh allowing one unearned run in the second and another in
the fourth bringing the score to 3-2. In the seventh with LSSU
loading the bases LSSU would take the game by scoring five runs
before the Dolphins could finally retire their bats. Hoping to
rally back Le Moyne would fail, bringing the final score to 7-3 and
putting the Dolphins to an overall record to 5-5.
Sarah Reed would take the loss for the Dolphins pitching for 3.1
innings. Caitlin O’Neill would lead the Dolphins in
RBI’s bringing in 3 followed by Reed with 1. Kelly Schweikert
led in hits for the Dolphins with three. Trialing close behind
Bailey Phillips and O’Neill would each have two.
The Dolphins complete their trip to the Rebel games tomorrow with
there first game against St. Joseph’s at 9 a.m. and Northern
Kentucky at 1 p.m.
