DOLPHINS MANAGE A SPLIT IN THEIR SECOND DAY OF THE REBEL SPRING INVITATIONAL. REED AND CHRISTOPHERSEN COMBINE TO THROW A NO HITTER VERSUS FINDLAY OF OHIO

March 3, 2008

Kissimmee, Fla. - The Dolphins started day two of the Rebel games with an 8-0 shutout against Findlay (Ohio). Sarah Reed and Caylinn Christophersen combined to pitch six innings without allowing a single Findlay hit. The game would end after six innings due to the eight run mercy rule. In their second game Le Moyne would suffer their first defeat at the hands of Gannon University by a score of 6-1. The Dolphins bring their record to 3-1 overall with 9 more games to follow in Florida.

Le Moyne took the first game of the day 8-0 against Findlay as Sarah Reed earned her first win of the season pitching a no hitter. The Dolphins would score a run in the first after two outs. Reed hit a single followed by a Jennifer Farrelly RBI double plating Reed. Emma Murphy would follow with a single, putting runners on the corners. Kim Baker’s single to center field drove in Farrelly and advanced Murphy to second. With the Dolphins up 2-0 Caitlin O’Neill followed with an RBI single to left scoring Murphy and advancing Baker to second. The inning ended with Le Moyne up 3-0.

Reed was in control retiring 13 straight batters between the first and fifth innings. Six of the thirteen batters would go down by strikeout. In the sixth Reed may have been tiring and was relieved by Caylinn Christophersen. Christophersen would get herself into trouble as she walked two, sandwiched around a throwing error, loading the bases. She would then strikeout Findlay leadoff hitter Brigitte Webb ending the threat and maintaining the shutout and no hitter. Findlay would make more noise in the sixth putting two runners on base. A one out walk followed by a throwing error by Christophersen put runners at the corners. Christophersen would finish the inning by striking out the final two Findlay batters.

It wasn’t until the sixth inning when there would be another score on the board. In the bottom of the sixth the Le Moyne bats woke up to push across five runs on four hits. The big hit of the inning was a two run double by Farrelly that pushed the score to 8-0 and end the game by the mercy rule.

Le Moyne was lead offensively by Farrelly’s two doubles and three RBI’s, Kim Baker contributed two singles.

The pitching start by Reed marks the first appearance since season ending shoulder surgery in April of 2007.

In the Second Game of the day Le Moyne fell to Gannon 6-1. The game started with Le Moyne scoring Reed from first base on an RBI booming double by Farrelly. The Dolphins would manage only one other hit in the game, a single by Kelly Schweikert in the third inning. Le Moyne never threaten again as pitcher Kelsey Buckman had Le Moyne hitters struggling all game. She would finish with five strikeouts. Gannon was led by Carol Kienzl who drove in four runs with a two run homer and two run double.

Le Moyne starter and loser was Jennifer Farrelly who gave up three runs on five hits. Freshman Jenna Vanacore relieved and gave up two runs over the final five innings. Vanacore struck out five and walked one.

Le Moyne returns to action in the Rebel games tomorrow versus Wilmington at 1 p.m. and Northwood at 5 p.m..
