MEADOWS DRIVES IN TWO AS LE MOYNE EARNS SPLIT IN SECOND DAY OF FLORIDA GULF COAST TOURNAMENT

FORT MYERS, FL - Junior Kortney Meadows (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) double twice and drove in two runs as Le Moyne defeated Saginaw Valley State University 8-4 in their final game of the Florida Gulf Coast Tournament. In the Dolphins first game of the day, Florida Gulf Coast University improved to 20-3 on the season with a 6-0 win.

In the first game, FGCU scored three unearned runs in the top of the third inning to jump out to a 3-0 lead. The Eagles plated two more unearned runs in the seventh inning to deliver the 6-0 final score. Sophomore Caitlin O'Neill (Pittsford, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) recorded two hits to lead the Dolphin offense. Sophomore Jennifer Farrelly (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) pitched all seven innings for the Dolphins with five strikeouts and only yielded one earned run.

In the afternoon game, Le Moyne rallied from a two run deficit in the final three innings. Senior Lindsay Spaziani (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) led off the fourth inning with a home run to right field to cut the Cardinal lead to 2-1. In the bottom of the fifth, Meadows doubled to center field to lead off the inning. She advanced to third on a groundout and scored the tying run on a fielding error by the Cardinals.

Le Moyne plated six runs on five hits in the bottom of the sixth inning to blow the game open. With runners on first and third, senior Kristen DesLauriers (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) drilled a two-run double to right center to give the Dolphins a 4-2 lead. Two batters later, Meadows blasted a two-run double to right center, followed by a double by O'Neill and and a sacrifice fly by Farrelly to deliver Le Moyne an 8-2 lead.

The Cardinals were able to close the gap to 8-4 with a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning before Sarah Reed (DeWitt, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) was able to induce a game-ending ground out. Reed went the distance in the circle, recording three strikeouts, in picking up her second win of the season.
