LE MOYNE SOFTBALL SPLITS ON DAY ONE OF NORTHEAST-10 CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Sophomore Sarah Reed (DeWitt, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) pitched a two-hit shutout as Le Moyne won its Northeast-10 Conference tournament opener 2-0 over Assumption, but Janine Enos pitched a three-hit shutout for top-seeded Bryant as the Dolphins dropped their second game of the double-elimination tournament 5-0. Le Moyne (28-18) plays Southern New Hampshire (21-20) on Saturday at noon in an elimination round game.

In Le Moyne's first game of the day, the fourth-seeded Dolphins got a strong performance from their all-conference pitcher. Reed struck out nine and did not walk a batter en route to her 13^th win of the season. She allowed a leadoff double in the third inning and a single in the sixth.

Reed also knocked in the only run she would need in the bottom of the fourth. Melissa Quimby (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville) and Kristen DesLauriers (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) laced back-to-back singles and Reed singled to right to knock in the first Le Moyne run. Emma Murphy (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) drove in the second run on a groundout.

In game two, junior Martha Senko's (Pine City, N.Y./Elmira Free Academy) shutout streak was ended at three consecutive games. She managed two outs in the top of the first before Jordan Dargon's double plated the only run Bryant would need. The Bulldogs scored three unearned runs in the second inning and tacked on another run in the third. Senko, whose scoreless streak ended at 26 and 1/3 innings, allowed five runs on nine hits and struck out five.

Le Moyne will meet No. 3 seed Southern New Hampshire on Saturday at noon.
