LE MOYNE POUNDS OUT 25 HITS IN DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP OF STONEHILL, DOLPHINS WIN OPENER 9-1 AND NIGHTCAP 7-6 TO WIN 20TH GAME FOR SEVENTH STRAIGHT SEASON
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Senior rightfielder Ashley Anderson (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) had three hits in the opener and Jennifer Farrelly (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) pitched four scoreless innings of relief in the nightcap as Le Moyne swept Stonehill 9-1, 7-6 in a Northeast-10 Conference softball doubleheader at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex. The Dolphins (20-14, 12-6 Northeast-10) have won 20 games for the seventh consecutive season, while Stonehill (16-15-1, 9-10-1 Northeast-10) suffers its fourth consecutive setback.
In game one, Anderson went 3-for-3 to pace a 13-hit attack for the Dolphins. Junior Kristen DesLauriers (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) had two doubles and knocked in two runs, while freshman Jennifer Farrelly (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) and sophomore first baseman Emma Murphy (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) also had two hits each.
After Stonehill jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Jaime Ippolito's first career home run, Le Moyne scored four times in the second and plated runs in each inning thereafter. The Dolphins scored two times before recording an out in the fifth to close out the game via the eight-run rule.
Sophomore Sarah Reed (DeWitt, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) struck out five and allowed just three hits in five innings for her 10th win of the season. Stonehill starter Mason was touched up for seven runs on 11 hits over the first four innings.
Le Moyne scored six times in the first inning of game two, but Stonehill surged back with six runs of its own in the top of the third. No. 9 hitter Lauren Polselli capped the Skyhawks rally with a three-run home run over the wall in left center.
Sophomore Kortney Meadows (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) singled and scored in the bottom half of the third as Le Moyne regained the lead. DesLauriers singled with two out to plate Meadows and make it 7-6.
Farrelly (2-2) struck out three, walked one and allowed just one hit over the final four innings for her second victory of the season.
Le Moyne returns to action in a doubleheader on Thursday at Saint Michael's.
