Softball: Le Moyne opens home slate of games this
weekend against conference foes
Syracuse, N.Y. - The Le Moyne College
Softball squad will open up their home schedule this weekend when
it takes on Northeast-10 conference members Stonehill and
Assumption on the Heights. The No. 19 Dolphins (8-8 overall) will
open with two games on Saturday and two more contests on Sunday,
both set for a noon start.
Le Moyne has played 14 of their 16 overall games in the Sunshine State of Florida. The Dolphins are riding a four game winning streak, and coming off a doubleheader sweep of Dowling College this past Sunday. Senior Jennifer Winters (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) leads the team in batting average hitting .360 (18-for-50) and is also atop the team in runs batted in with 13. Junior teammate Kristen DesLauries (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) enters this weekend's action second on the team batting .325 (13-for-40).
On the mound Le Moyne is led by sophomore Sarah Reed (Dewitt, N.Y./Jamesville-Dewitt) who is 3-5 on the season and first on the team with a 1.17 ERA. Junior southpaw Martha Senko (Pine City, N.Y./Elmira Free) has posted a 3-1 record and a 5.13 ERA.
This weekend's games mark the first time the Dolphins have played a game on their own turf since winning the 2005 Northeast Regional and advancing to the Division II College World Series. Le Moyne is the preseason favorite to repeat as Northeast-10 Conference champions according to the Northeast-10 Conference pre-season coach's poll. Le Moyne's weekend opponents, Stonehill (7-5) and Assumption (9-7), come into Syracuse this weekend for the kickoff to the NE-10 season.
First pitch for Saturday's doubleheader against Stonehill is set for noon as well as Sunday's doubleheader against Assumption.
