D’AMBRO AND OUSTRICH LEAD DOLPHINS TO FIRST-PLACE FINISHES AT HOME 5K CHALLENGE

Syracuse, N.Y. – Junior Emma D'Ambro (Schaghticoke, N.Y./Hoosic Valley) finished second in the women's race and classmate Evan Oustrich (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) placed third in the men's race to lead the Le Moyne College men's and women's cross country teams to first-place finishes on Sunday morning at the Le Moyne 5K Challenge.

The Dolphins claimed the top five spots n the women's team competition to finish with 15 points, while the men took first place by edging out SUNY Delhi 39-42. Kelsey Ryan '09 won the women's race with a time of 18:47, while Jason Phillips, who ran unattached, topped the men's field with a time of 15:45.5.

D'Ambro completed the five-kilometer course in 19:10.1 to place second among the 38 competitors. Senior Gina Micaroni (Blossvale, N.Y./Canastota) crossed the finish line third with a time of 19:27.4. Three freshmen occupied the next three places for the Dolphins. Taylor Lewis (Belchertown, Mass./Belchertown) was fourth in 19:51.9, Laura Hough (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) placed fifth in 20:00 and Rachel Crosley (Clinton, N.Y./Clinton) came in sixth with a time of 20:04.3 to round out Le Moyne's top-five finishers.

On the men's side, Oustrich turned in a time of 15:57 to place third among the 44 competitors over the five-kilometer course. Junior Nicholas Cutter (Housatonic, Mass./Monument Mountain)  recorded a seventh-place finish in 16:28.4, while sophomore Michael Marrero (Jordan, N.Y./Jordan-Elbridge) gave the Dolphins three finishers in the top-10 with a time of 16:45.5. Junior Patrick Micaroni (Blossvale, N.Y./Canastota) was right behind Marrero in 11th place with a time of 16:50.6, while sophomore Nicholas Barletta (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) capped Le Moyne's top-five finishers with a 13th-place finish in 16:53.5.

Le Moyne, which honored seniors Gina Micaroni and Steve Bodnar (Westport, N.Y./Westport) following the race for their contributions to the program, returns to action on Saturday at the Geneseo Invitational at Letchworth State Park at 12:00 p.m.
