MCANDREW SECOND, MICARONI FIFTH AT DANIEL WALKER INVITATIONAL

Buffalo, N.Y. – Junior Jake McAndrew (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) finished in second place to lead the Le Moyne College men’s cross country team to a fifth-place finish at Buffalo State’s Daniel Walker Invitational at Beaver Island State Park on Saturday, Aug. 30. Freshman Gina Micaroni (Blossville, N.Y./Canastota) finished fifth to lead the women’s squad to a fourth-place finish.

McAndrew, an all-conference and all-region selection as a sophomore, completed the course in 26:28 to lead the Dolphins. Senior co-captain Peter Gratien (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) finished in 40th place in a time of 29:06, while Raph Kopecky (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) was 54th in 29:42. Michael Notar (Schenectady, N.Y./Schalmont) and Charlie Deragon (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) finished in 30:41 and 32:30, respectively, to round out Le Moyne’s top-5 runners. Geneseo’s Lee Berube won the men’s race in 26:11 to lead the Blue Knights to the team title.

Micaroni raced to a fifth-place finish in 20:23 in her first collegiate meet. Senior co-captains Kelsey Ryan (Warsaw, N.Y./Livonia) and Alycia Hall (Medway, Mass./Medway) garnered top-30 finishes for the Dolphins. Ryan crossed the finish line 11th in 20:44, while Hall was 30th in 21:56. Junior Chelsea Gibson (Weedsport, N.Y./Weedsport) placed 33rd in 22:00 and freshman Kate Brondum (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) finished in 23:33 for 61st place. Geneseo’s Alyssa Smith won the women’s race in 19:56 as Geneseo captured the women’s team title.

The Dolphins return to action on Saturday, Sept. 6 in Albany, N.Y. for Saint Rose’s Golden Knights Joust.
