LE MOYNE COLLEGE CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS TABBED SEVENTH IN USTFCCCA PRESEASON REGIONAL RANKINGS
New Orleans, La. - The Le Moyne College men's and women's cross country teams have each been ranked seventh in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association preseason East regional rankings.
The Le Moyne men, who placed tenth at last season's NCAA Northeast Regional meet, return nine members from last year's squad. The Dolphins are led by co-captains Jake McAndrew and Peter Gratien. McAndrew, an all-conference and all-region selection last year as a sophomore, finished in the top-15 on five occasions. McAndrew's top performance was a first-place finish at the Le Moyne Invitational. McAndrew, who was also named to the Northeast-10 Conference All-Academic First Team, turned in a pair of third-place finishes at Oswego's Pat Peterson Invitational and the Oneonta Invitational to start the season. McAndrew capped his season by earning Northeast-10 Conference Second Team honors by finishing eighth at the conference meet and All-Northeast Region honors from the USTFCCCA after a 13th-place finish at the Northeast Regional. Gratien, one of just two seniors on the roster, registered a pair of top-20 finishes as a junior. Gratien completed the Oneonta Invitational course in 20t place and crossed the finish line eighth at the Le Moyne Invitational.
The Dolphins' women's team, which also placed tenth at last year's NCAA Northeast Regional meet, also brings back nine harriers. The team is led by senior co-captains Kelsey Ryan and Alycia Hall. Ryan, Le Moyne's top finisher at each meet last season, turned in an 18th-place finish at the 2007 Northeast-10 Championship and a 25th-place finish at the NCAA Northeast Regional meet to lead the Dolphins to a 10th-place finish at each meet. Ryan's top performance came at the 2007 Le Moyne College Invitational, where she crossed the finish line third. Hall, a co-captain for the second consecutive year, turned in a time of 23:46 at the Le Moyne Invitational and a performance of 26:22.9 at the NCAA regional meet.
Le Moyne opens its season on Saturday, August 30 at Buffalo State for the Daniel Walker Invitational.
