DEFENDING NE-10 CHAMPION MERRIMACK TOPS MEN’S TENNIS, 9-0

DeWitt, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team fell to defending Northeast-10 Conference champion Merrimack College, 9-0, on Sunday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Gold's Gym.

In doubles action, Chris Barnhart and Matt Pronesti registered an 8-5 victory over junior Shane Evans (Oswego, N.Y./Pulaski) and senior Daryl Johnson (Minoa, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) at the top spot. At the second position, Miguel Belfort and Vince Bellino were 8-3 winners over freshman James Gayvert (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and senior Alessandro Nieves (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker), while James Barnhart and Nick Majewski posted an 8-2 win over freshman Benjamin Spoor (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) and sophomore Tyler Shaban (Liverpool, N.Y./C.W. Baker) at third doubles.

In singles play, Belfort handed Gayvert his first collegiate loss by posting 6-1 and 6-3 wins at the first position, while James Barnhart recorded a pair of 6-2 wins over Evans at second singles. Chris Barnhart, a second team all-conference selection last year, registered a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Johnson at the third spot, while Pronesti tallied a 6-0, 6-2 win over Spoor at the fourth position. Bellino registered an 8-2 win over Nieves at the fifth spot, while Tayyab Sheikh was an 8-1 winner over sophomore Blaine Drake (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) at sixth singles.

Le Moyne (1-3, 1-3 NE-10) closes out its Fall season on Saturday at Bentley University at 1:00 p.m.
