MEN’S TENNIS EDGED BY AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL, 6-3

Liverpool, N.Y. – Freshman Blaine Drake (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) recorded two victories, but the Le Moyne College men's tennis team was defeated by American International College, 6-3, on Wednesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Gold's Gym.

In doubles action, Drake teamed with classmate Tyler Shaban (Liverpool, N.Y./C.W. Baker) at the third spot to defeat Jason Popek and Chandler Long by a score of 8-2. The Yellow Jackets picked up wins at first and second doubles. Thijs Bik and Kenzo Kauffmann topped junior Alessandro Nieves (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) and sophomore Shane Evans (Oswego, N.Y./Pulaski), 8-3, at first singles, while Cass Schwab and Jakub Simicek won at second singles over junior Daryl Johnson (Minoa, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) and graduate student Michael Green (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) by a score of 8-2.

At fifth singles, Drake registered a 6-2, 6-2 win over Popek for his first Northeast-10 victory of the year. Senior Robert Brooks (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) earned his first NE-10 win by defeating Long at sixth singles by a score of 8-0. At first singles, Schwab recorded a 6-1, 6-2 win over Nieves, while Bik was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Johnson at second singles. Kauffmann posted a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Evans at the third spot, while Simicek edged Green at fourth singles, 7-5, 7-5.

Le Moyne (1-8, 0-6) returns to the courts on Saturday at Stonehill College at 11:00 a.m.
