MTEN: DOLPHINS CLOSE OUT REGULAR SEASON WITH A 9-0 WIN OVER
UTICA
Syracuse, N.Y. - The Le Moyne College men's tennis team closed out
the regular season on Wednesday afternoon with a 9-0 win over
non-conference opponent Utica. Prior to the match, the Dolphins
honored their three seniors, Ben Jordan (Cassville,
N.Y./Mt. Markham), Chris Meeker (Wampsville,
N.Y./Oneida) and David Norton
(Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) for their contributions to
the program.
The men's tennis program was able to end the regular season on a
four-game winning streak, all by a score of 9-0. Freshmen
Daniel Sullivan (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) and
Brian Rice (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) each won
their fourth straight match at first and second singles,
respectively. The two also teamed up for a victory at first
doubles. Freshman James Shelp (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford
Sutherland) picked up his fourth win in a row at third
singles by a score of 6-0, 6-2. Shelp earlier teamed up with Norton
for a win at second doubles, 8-3.
Freshmen Andrew Gleason (Gorham, Maine/Cheverus)
and Joseph Persia (Spencerport, N.Y./Spencerport)
won at fourth and fifth singles, respectively, each by a score of
6-0, 6-1. Jordan won at sixth singles 6-1, 6-0 to secure his fifth
consecutive win, which leads the team. Jordan and classmate Meeker
teamed up for an 8-0 win at third doubles.
The Dolphins open Northeast-10 conference play on the road on
Wednesday, April 22nd. Tournament match-ups will be
decided following the completion of the regular season on Sunday,
April 19th.
