ROSEMARY DEHOOG NAMED LE MOYNE COLLEGE HEAD WOMEN'S TENNIS COACH
Syracuse, N.Y. - Le Moyne College Director of Athletics Matt Bassett announced today the hiring of Rosemary DeHoog as head women's tennis coach. Coach Steve Underwood, who previously oversaw both programs, will assume the leadership of the men's team
DeHoog comes to Le Moyne with 30 years of experience as the head tennis professional at Drumlins Tennis Club. DeHoog was responsible for providing high-level teaching and programming services. She also taught private lessons at all levels, ranging from pee-wee programs on up. In 2007, DeHoog became just the 13th woman in the United States Professional Tennis Association to attain master professional certification.
During her time at Drumlins, DeHoog was an adjunct professor of
Exercise Science at Syracuse University from 1978 until her
retirement in 2004, as well as the coordinator of the tennis
program at Syracuse. In this capacity, DeHoog pro
vided a recreational tennis setting for upwards of 150 students
per semester wishing to improve their tennis skills. DeHoog also
owned Rosemary's Place, the tennis pro shop at Drumlins, from 1980
until 2004. In this role, DeHoog was responsible for the ordering
of all tennis hard goods, clothing and gear needed by club members.
DeHoog began her professional career in Syracuse as a staff
professional at the former Wolf Hollow Racquet Club (now Drumlins
Tennis Club). DeHoog was responsible for all after-school programs
for juniors and teaching private lessons.
DeHoog has also spent time as a physical education teacher at the high school and collegiate levels. She began her teaching career at Trenton High School in Trenton, Michigan, where she taught girl's physical education classes and coached the synchronized swimming team from 1962-65. She later started the women's physical education program as a faculty assistant at Wisconsin State University-Platteville and coached the men's tennis team from 1967-69. Prior to coming to Syracuse, DeHoog spent time teaching girl's physical education classes at Neshannock High School in New Castle, Pennsylvania.
DeHoog is a 1960 graduate of Kalamazoo College, where she was the #1 singles player while pursuing a B.A. in history, with minors in Physical Education and French. As a student-athlete, DeHoog was a four-time Women's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association singles champion.
