LE MOYNE 400 FREE RELAY TEAM IS PROGRAM’S FIRST TO QUALIFY FOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP, DOLPHINS WIN FOUR RELAYS, FINISH SEVENTH OVERALL AT UNYSCSA CHAMPIONSHIP
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – For the first time in program history, a Le Moyne men’s swimming relay team has qualified for the NCAA Division II Championship. The Dolphins capped the 2006 UNYSCSA Championship at Nottingham High School with a national qualifying and school-record time of 3:05.32 in the 400 free relay.
With eight first-place finishes, Le Moyne finished seventh in the team competition. Hartwick won the team event, followed by Alfred, Union, Rensselaer, Ithaca, RIT and Le Moyne. Nazareth was eighth, Clarkson ninth, followed by St. Lawrence, Vassar, Utica and Skidmore.
The 400 Free Relay team of Ricky Chidsey (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool), Ryan Lowrie (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City), Shawn Bankey (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) and Will Chidsey (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) shattered the school record with a 3:05.32 in the relay. The time qualified Le Moyne’s quartet, plus one alternate, for the NCAA Division II Championship by 0.27 seconds.
On the event’s final day, Ricky Chidsey won his third individual event of the championship. He topped the 200 back in an NCAA ‘A’ cut and school record time of 1:50.86.
