Syracuse, N.Y. – Kenny Doublette scored with 2:16 remaining to lift 24th-ranked Southern New Hampshire to a 2-1 win over the Le Moyne College men's soccer team on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex.
The Penmen opened the game's scoring just over 12 minutes into the contest. Right back Jonathan Lupinelli sent a cross from near the right sideline to the top left corner of the goal box, where fellow Frenchman Mohamed Toufik headed the ball just inside the lower left corner of the goal at the 12:16 mark.
After 61 and one-half minutes of scoreless action, the Dolphins evened the score at one apiece with 16:17 remaining. Junior midfielder Zachary MacNabb (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse/UNC Pembroke) carried the ball towards the top right corner of the penalty box before serving the ball in front of the net. Sophomore midfielder Casey Murphy (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) volleyed the ball from 12 yards out into the left side of the goal for his team-best fourth tally of the season.
Southern New Hampshire took advantage of Le Moyne playing down a player and turned up the offensive pressure. In the first nine minutes after Murphy's goal, the Penmen put five shots on target, with junior goalkeeper Matthew Silva (Brampton, Ontario/St. Augustine) turning each away, while having another shot hit off the crossbar. Doublette was finally able to beat Silva with 2:16 left as he poked the ball into the left side of the goal from the top of the goal box after it deflected off a Le Moyne defender.
Silva took the loss despite making nine saves, seven of which came in the second half. Dom DiMaggio earned the win without making a save. Southern New Hampshire registered a 24-7 advantage in shots, while taking 10 of the game's 11 corner kicks.
Le Moyne (2-5, 1-3 NE-10), which lost at home to Southern New Hampshire for the first time since 1994 (6-0-2 in between losses), returns to action on Tuesday against Southern Connecticut State at 4:00 p.m.
