Syracuse, N.Y. – Junior midfielder Zachary MacNabb (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse/UNC Pembroke) scored midway through the first half to lead the Le Moyne College men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over New York Tech on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action at the Niland Athletic Complex.
New York Tech had a chance to get on the scoreboard first with a shot from the right side at the 18:46 mark, but junior goalkeeper Matthew Silva (Brampton, Ontario/St. Augustine) stretched to his right to slap the ball away.
The Dolphins countered almost exactly three minutes later to net the game's only goal. Junior midfielder Emmanuel Chanelo (Syracuse, N.Y./Corcoran) carried the ball down the right sideline before sending a pass to sophomore midfielder Casey Murphy (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) inside the penalty box. Murphy then passed the ball in front of the goal, where MacNabb charged in and one-timed the ball into the back of the net from four yards out.
The Bears attempted to even the score just over two minutes later, but Silva made a diving save on a diving header from nine yards out by Herve Valcourt.
Playing with a man-advantage, the Bears outshot the Dolphins, 10-1, in the second half, but could only put one shot on target, which Silva easily turned away.
Silva finished the game with four saves to record his 16th career shutout. Liam Waddy did not make a save in taking the loss for the Bears. New York Tech recorded an 18-4 advantage in shots and a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
Le Moyne (1-2) opens Northeast-10 Conference play on Wednesday when it hosts American International at 4:00 p.m.
