MSOC: #20 DOLPHINS CLINCH SECOND SEED IN NE-10 TOURNAMENT WITH 3-2
OVERTIME WIN OVER SAINT ROSE
Albany, N.Y. - Sophomore back Eddy Rosenburgh (Barneveld,
N.Y./Poland) scored the game-winning goal and dished out
an assist to lead the 20th-ranked Le Moyne College men's soccer
team to a 3-2 overtime victory over The College of Saint Rose on
Tuesday afternoon at the University at Albany.
Justin Little gave the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead at the 13:14 mark
off a penalty kick after a Le Moyne defender pulled Little down in
the penalty box. Despite holding an 8-4 advantage in shots, the
Dolphins were not able to net the equalizer before halftime.
Just 2:19 into the second half, the Dolphins knotted the score at
one goal apiece on the 14th tally of the season by junior forward
Angelo Reina (Frankfort, N.Y./Utica Notre Dame).
Rosenburgh collected a Saint Rose clear attempt and dribbled up the
middle of the field. Rosenburgh then slotted the ball to Reina, who
scored into the upper right corner from just inside the left corner
of the penalty box.
The Dolphins pulled ahead at the 23:58 mark of the second half on
the second goal of the season by freshman midfielder Vince
Scaravillo (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill). After taking a pass
along the right sideline, Reina crossed the ball to Scaravillo, who
dribbled the ball into the goal box, cut back to his right and shot
between the legs of the Saint Rose goalkeeper.
Little evened the score at two with just under five minutes
remaining on his second penalty kick goal of the afternoon. The
Golden Knights were awarded a penalty kick at the 85:04 mark on a
Le Moyne hand ball in the penalty box.
Reina had a pair of opportunities to end the game at the 2:40 mark
of overtime, but his first shot went off the crossbar and his
header off the rebound hit the crossbar and went out-of-bounds.
Rosenburgh ended the contest at the 95:26 mark by drilling a shot
into the lower right corner of the goal from 30 yards after
collecting a loose ball.
The Dolphins out-shot their hosts 20-7, including 12-3 after the
intermission. Senior goalkeeper Steve White (Cortland,
N.Y./Cortland) made two saves in the contest, while Patrik
Ohlsson turned away one shot for the Golden Knights.
With the victory, Le Moyne (14-2-2, NE-10 10-2-1) clinches the
second seed in the upcoming Northeast-10 Conference tournament. The
Dolphins will host a first round game on Sunday, Nov. 1. Complete
tournament information will be released Wednesday night following
completion of the regular season.
