MSOC: #21 DOLPHINS DOWN BENTLEY, 2-0, FOR FOURTH STRAIGHT
WIN
Waltham, Mass. - Junior forward Angelo Reina (Frankfort,
N.Y./Utica Notre Dame) scored a goal and dished out an
assist to lead the 21st-ranked Le Moyne College men's soccer team
to a 2-0 win at Bentley on Saturday afternoon at Bentley Field.
Le Moyne opened the scoring in the 28th minute as junior midfielder
Domenico Vitale (Liverpool, N.Y./Cicero-North
Syracuse) scored his first career goal. Reina crossed a
through ball into the penalty box, where Vitale scored from 12
yards out. The Falcons had a pair of shots two minutes later, but
the first hit the crossbar and the second was blocked by a Le Moyne
defender. Neither team was able to get a shot at the goal over the
final 15 minutes as the Dolphins took a 1-0 lead into the
intermission.
Just over five and one-half minutes into the second half, the
Dolphins doubled their lead. Sophomore back Bryce Martin
(Cazenovia, N.Y./Chittenango) crossed the ball into the
box and Reina volleyed the ball into the back of the net for his
team-high seventh goal of the season. The Falcons held a 10-3
advantage in shots over the final 30 minutes of the match, but
could not get one past senior goalkeeper Steve White
(Cortland, N.Y./Cortland), who made three stops in the
stanza.
White finished the contest with three saves for his fourth shutout
of the season, while his counterpart, Michael Nikiforov, posted
four saves for the Falcons. Bentley held a 13-10 edge in shots,
while also registering two of the three corner kicks in the
match.
Le Moyne (7-1-1, NE-10 4-1), which has won four straight games
after dropping its only game of the season on Sept. 13, returns
home to face Assumption on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
