MSOC: KUZEMKA AND DEBOTTIS LEAD #21 DOLPHINS TO 2-1 WIN OVER
FRANKLIN PIERCE
Syracuse, N.Y. - Midfielders Zach Kuzemka (Chenango Forks,
N.Y./Chenango Forks/Fairfield) and Marcus Debottis
(Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) scored 10 minutes
apart in the second half to lead the 21st-ranked Le Moyne College
men's soccer team to a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Franklin
Pierce in Northeast-10 Conference action on Wednesday afternoon at
the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex.
Franklin Pierce, the 2007 Division II National Champion, opened
the scoring in the contest in the 30th minute. Nicholas Schibly
bent a 12-yard shot from the left corner of the penalty box around
senior goalkeeper Steve White (Cortland,
N.Y./Cortland) into the top right corner of the goal. Over
the final 15 minutes of the stanza, the Ravens were able to get two
shots on goal, but White made the save each time.
Kuzemka, who has scored in three consecutive games, evened the
score at one apiece in the 68th minute. After collecting the ball
on the right sideline, Kuzemka dribbled left to the middle of the
field and buried a left-footed shot into the top left corner of the
goal from 25 yards outs. Just over 10 minutes later, Debottis
tallied his first career goal from the top of the goal box off a
pass from junior forward Angelo Reina (Frankfort,
N.Y./Utica Notre Dame). After Franklin Pierce's Frantz
Francois' header hit the crossbar, the Dolphins cleared the ball to
Reina, who carried the ball into the penalty box before finding
Debottis for the game-winner. The Ravens pressured the Dolphins
over the final 12 minutes of the contest, but could not net the
equalizer. White made three saves in the final 7:46 on shots from
within eight yards.
White finished the contest with seven saves in registering his
40th career victory. Franklin Pierce's Vinny Papageorgiou turned
aside three shots in the match. The Ravens held a 15-10 advantage
in shots, while posting a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
Le Moyne (6-1-1, NE-10 3-1), which beat the Ravens in the regular
season for the first time since a 2-1 home victory in 2004, returns
to action on Saturday, Sept. 26 at Bentley at 12:00 p.m.
