MSOC: REINA SCORES TWICE IN LE MOYNE'S SEASON-OPENING 2-1 WIN AT
HOUGHTON
Houghton, N.Y. - Junior forward Angelo Reina (Frankfort,
N.Y./Utica Notre Dame) scored two goals to lead Le Moyne
College to a 2-1 win over Houghton in the men's soccer season
opener for both teams on Friday evening.
Reina, a two-time all-Northeast-10 conference selection and the
league's co-freshman of the year in 2007, got the Dolphins on the
scoreboard just 4:49 into the contest with a breakaway goal. At the
27-minute mark, Reina took a feed from classmate Sean
Lawlor (Kirkham, Preston/Baines School) and pushed a shot
past Houghton goalkeeper Steve Zacchinga to net the eventual
game-winner.
Johnathan Brooks cut the Le Moyne lead in half with 22 minutes
remaining after taking a crossing pass from Johnny Kimani.
Senior goalkeeper Steve White (Cortland,
N.Y./Cortland) posted three saves in net for the Dolphins
to record his 35th career victory, tying Tim Mann '05 for second
all-time on Le Moyne's career wins list, one shy of the program
record. Zacchinga registered five stops for the Highlanders. The
Dolphins held a 13-7 advantage in shots, while also registering an
8-3 edge in corner kicks.
Le Moyne (1-0) returns to action for its home opener on Wednesday,
September 2 against Dominican at 3:30 p.m. The contest will be
broadcast live at www.lemoynedolphins.tv.
