LE MOYNE MEN'S SOCCER SELECTED FOURTH, VOLLEYBALL PICKED NINTH,
WOMEN'S SOCCER TABBED 11TH IN NORTHEAST-10 CONFERENCE PRESEASON
POLLS
South Easton, Mass. - The Le Moyne College men's soccer team has
been selected to finish fourth in the Northeast-10 Conference
standings, as voted on by the league's 14 head coaches and released
by the conference office on Friday, Aug. 21. The Le Moyne
volleyball squad was picked to finish ninth in the conference
standings among 16 teams, while the women's soccer team was tabbed
11th among 16 conference teams.
In the men's soccer poll, Southern New Hampshire University
garnered seven of 14 first-place votes and 188 points in being
selected to repeat as regular season champions. Franklin Pierce,
the 2007 National Champion, picked up one first-place vote and 174
to place second, while UMass Lowell, which earned a share of last
season's regular season title, tallied four first-place votes and
172 points for third place. The Dolphins, who finished fourth in
last season's standings and advanced to the conference championship
game, registered 147 points to edge out Southern Connecticut State,
which received a first-place vote, by one point for fourth place.
Merrimack recorded 126 points and Bentley tallied 95 points to wrap
up the top half of the standings. Assumption (83), Saint Michael's
(77) and American International (73) complete the top-10, while
Saint Anselm received the final first-place vote en route to 69
points and an 11th-place finish. New Haven (62), Saint Rose (31)
and Stonehill (27) were selected to round out the poll.
Le Moyne opens the season on Friday, Aug. 28 at Houghton at 5 p.m.
The Dolphins will play their first home game on Wednesday, Sept. 2
against Dominican at 3:30 p.m. The contest with the Chargers will
be broadcast live at www.lemoynedolphins.tv. The
eight-team Northeast-10 tournament quarterfinals will begin on
Sunday, Nov. 1. The semifinals will take place on Wednesday, Nov.
4, with the finals being played on Saturday, Nov. 7.
In the volleyball poll, Bentley University was selected for the
second straight year to finish atop the final regular season
standings with five first-place votes and 242 points. Merrimack,
which picked up three first-place votes, earned 235 points, while
New Haven, which won last year's regular season and tournament
championship after going 14-0 in its first season in the league,
received a league-best seven first-place votes to finish third with
231 points. Conference newcomer Adelphi, which finished third in
the East Coast Conference last year, earned one first-place vote
and 210 points for fourth place, with American International
picking up 182 points for fifth place. UMass Lowell (154),
Stonehill (153) and Franklin Pierce (138) complete the top of the
standings. The Dolphins registered 127 points for ninth place,
while Saint Rose followed with 122 points, Southern Connecticut
State tallied 113 and Pace recorded 93. Southern New Hampshire
(75), Saint Michael's (43), Assumption (38) and Saint Anselm (20)
were picked to round out the standings.
The Dolphins open the regular season on Saturday, Aug. 29 at
Molloy at 11:00 a.m. Le Moyne will open the home portion of its
schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 8 against Roberts Wesleyan at 7:00 p.m.
The contest with the Raiders will be broadcast live at www.lemoynedolphins.tv. The
eight-team Northeast-10 tournament, hosted by UMass Lowell, will
begin on Friday, Nov. 13. The semifinals and finals will take place
on Saturday, Nov. 14.
In the women's soccer preseason poll, Franklin Pierce, which
shared the 2008 regular season title with Saint Rose, earned 12 of
16 first-place votes to claim the top spot in the poll with 252
points. Saint Rose recorded the final four first-place votes to
place second with 243 points. Rounding out the top-five was
Merrimack with 204 points, Southern Connecticut State with 199
points and UMass Lowell with 171 points. Conference newcomer
Adelphi (153), Southern New Hampshire (139) and New Haven (134)
were selected to complete the top half of the preseason poll and
make the conference tournament. Saint Anselm picked up 124 points,
American International registered 105 points, the Dolphins earned
89 and Saint Michael's received 84 points to make up the next
quarter of the poll. Stonehill (69), Assumption (66), Bentley (28)
and Pace (25) were selected to complete the standings.
The Dolphins open the regular season on Thursday, Aug. 27 against
St. Thomas Aquinas at 5 p.m. as part of American International's
Tournament. Le Moyne will play its first home contest on Wednesday,
Sept. 2 against Southern New Hampshire at 1:00 p.m. The contest
with the Penmen will be broadcast live at www.lemoynedolphins.tv. The
Northeast-10 tournament quarterfinals will begin on Sunday, Nov. 1.
The semifinals will take place on Thursday, Nov. 5, with the finals
being played on Sunday, Nov. 8.
