MSOC: DOLPHINS DOWN AIC IN OVERTIME, 2-1, IN NE-10 ACTION
Springfield, Mass. - Senior midfielder Matt Pecheone (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford) scored two goals to lead the Le Moyne College men's soccer team to a 2-1 overtime win over American International College in Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday at AIC Park.
Pecheone got the Dolphins on the board in the 28th minute off an assist from sophomore Joe Viviano (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse). The two squads were scoreless over the final 18 minutes of the first half to go into intermission with the Dolphins leading 1-0.
In the second half, the Yellow Jackets and Dolphins remained in a one-goal contest until the 89th minute. With just 1:22 remaining in regulation, Keon Bobb headed a crossing pass from Thomas Denomme past junior goalkeeper Steve White (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) for the equalizing goal. Sophomore forward Angelo Reina (Frankfurt, N.Y./Utica Notre Dame) registered a shot with four seconds remaining, but Joseph Ferrentino made the save for the Yellow Jackets.
At the 5:52 mark of the first overtime period, Pecheone netted the game winner with his eighth goal of the season off an assist from classmate Brandon Morse (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee).
Le Moyne outshot its hosts, 17-7, in the contest, while also holding a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks. White recorded two saves in net for the Dolphins, while Ferrentino registered five saves between the pipes.
Le Moyne (10-3-2, NE-10 7-3-1), receiving votes in the latest NSCAA/adidas national rankings, returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 18 against St. Anselm at 1:00 p.m. The contest will mark the final home regular-season game for the Dolphins' four-member senior class.
