MORSE LEADS DOLPHINS TO 2-1 DEFEAT OF #5 DOMINICAN
Orangeburg, N.Y. - Senior Brandon Morse (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) scored in the 55th minute to lead the Le Moyne College men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over fifth-ranked Dominican on Wednesday afternoon at the Torne Valley Sports Complex in Hillburn, N.Y.
Le Moyne opened the scoring at the 14:38 mark of the first half on an unassisted goal by senior Matt Pecheone (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford). Pecheone's goal marked the first of the season allowed by the Chargers this season. The two squads remained scoreless over the final 30 minutes of the period to go into intermission with the Dolphins holding a 1-0 lead.
Dominican evened the score at one apiece just under six and a half minutes into the second half. Joe Wright got the Chargers on the board by tallying a goal off a feed from Alan Heavey. Just over three minutes later, Morse netted the game-winner off a pass from sophomore Sean Lawlor (Kirkham, Preston/Baines School).
Le Moyne was outshot in the contest 11-8, including 8-3 in the second half. The Chargers also held an 8-6 edge in corner kicks. Junior goalkeeper Steve White (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) recorded three saves in net for the Dolphins, while Brandon Heembrock registered one save for the Chargers.
Le Moyne opens its home slate on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 12 p.m. against Northeast-10 Conference foe Stonehill.
