LE MOYNE MEN'S SOCCER TIES WILMINGTON, 1-1, IN SEASON OPENER
New Castle, DE - Junior Davide Dipaola (Rochester, N.Y./Greece
Athena) scored in the 22nd minute to lead the Le Moyne College
men's soccer team to a 1-1 draw with Wilmington University in the
opening match of the Wilmington University Invitational on
Thursday, Aug. 28 at the Kirkwood Soccer Complex.
The Dolphins tallied the contest's first goal as Dipaola converted
a corner kick by freshman Jesse Carr (Skaneateles,
N.Y./Skaneateles) for his first career goal. The Dolphins out-shot
the Wildcats 7-3 in the opening period to take a 1-0 lead into
intermission.
Midway through the second half, Wilmington's Sargbah Tarpeh headed in a cross from Dave Dease to knot the score at one.
Junior goalkeeper Steve White (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) registered six saves in net for the Dolphins, while Ethan Kavanagh posted eight saves for the Wildcats. Le Moyne was out-shot in the contest 15-13, but held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Le Moyne (0-0-1) wraps up competition at the Wilmington Invitational on Friday, Aug. 29 at 1:30 p.m. against Holy Family.
