RINDGE,
N.H. – Le Moyne’s bid
for its first men’s soccer Northeast-10 Conference
Championship will take place at Franklin Pierce’s Sodexho
Field on Sunday at 1 p.m. It will mark Le Moyne’s second trip
to the conference championship, and first since the 1998
season.
Le Moyne (13-5-2) advanced to the title tilt with a pair of home
victories. The third-seeded Dolphins blanked No. 6 seed American
International 2-0 on Sunday and edged seventh-seeded Bryant 2-1 in
overtime Wednesday afternoon. Top seed Franklin Pierce (13-4-4)
squeezed past Southern New Hampshire 1-0 and advanced via penalty
kicks (5-4) after a 2-2 draw with No. 5 seed UMass Lowell on
Wednesday evening.
The Dolphins and Ravens met in Rindge, N.H. on Oct. 4. Franklin
Pierce scored the final three goals to earn a 3-1 win in that
meeting. Junior Ryan Cunningham (Baldwinsville,
N.Y./Baldwinsville) scored in the opening half for Le
Moyne, but Simon Walker angled in a corner kick 42 seconds into the
second half and All-America Christopher Joyce tallied two more
goals to secure the Franklin Pierce triumph.
A pair of Silver Spring, Md. natives lead Le Moyne in major
statistical categories. Sophomore Eric Macias
(Silver Spring,
Md./Wheaton)
has scored 10 goals and assisted on six for 26 points. Senior
Tim Mann (Silver
Spring,
Md./Paint Branch) brings an
11-5-2 record, 0.90 goals against average and .840 save percentage
into the conference championship.
The Dolphins have outscored the opposition 43-18 this season,
including a 22-3 edge in the first half of games. Le Moyne is 5-3-1
on the road this season. Under sixth-year head coach Tom Bonus, Le
Moyne has posted five consecutive seasons of ten or more wins.
