MEN’S SOCCER: THIRD-SEEDED LE MOYNE HOSTS NO. 7 SEED
BRYANT IN NORTHEAST-10 CONFERENCE SEMIFINALS
SYRACUSE, N.Y.
– For the second consecutive season, the Le
Moyne College men’s soccer team will host a semifinal round
game at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex. The Dolphins
(12-5-2) host seventh-seeded Bryant University (8-5-4) on Wednesday
at 2 p.m.
Le Moyne, 7-2-1 at home this season, advanced to the conference
semifinals with a 2-0 win over American International on Sunday.
Senior goalkeeper Tim Mann (Silver Spring, Md./Paint
Branch) stopped seven shots for his team single-season
record ninth shutout of the season. Freshman midfielder
Brandon Morse (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) headed home the
first goal of the game. Sophomore midfielder Eric Macias
(Silver Spring, Md./Wheaton) set up the first goal off a
free kick and scored the second on a penalty kick.
Bryant scored a 3-2 overtime win at second-seeded Merrimack in
Sunday’s conference quarterfinals. Michael Gargiulo scored
two goals, including the game-winner with 1:22 remaining in
overtime to deliver the Bulldogs their first Northeast-10
Conference tournament win since 1988.
Le Moyne scored a 1-0 double-overtime win over Bryant in the only meeting between the two clubs this season. Junior Rob Moskwa (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) scored on a breakaway in the 106th minute. In 2004, Le Moyne also scored a 1-0 win over the Bulldogs. Current assistant coach Richard Shaw netted the game’s only goal with 32 seconds remaining.
The Dolphins feature one of the nation’s stingiest defenses. Le Moyne has outscored its opposition 41-17 this season, including a 21-3 edge in the first half. Mann has posted a 10-5-2 record, 0.91 goals against average and .838 save percentage. Senior Geoff Berger (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa), senior Joe Sroka (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool), senior Kladji Lika (Syracuse, N.Y./Bryant & Stratton) and sophomore Mark Lukowiecki (Edinburgh, Scotland/Queensferry) have played key roles in defensive positions. Macias leads Le Moyne with 10 goals and 26 total points. Senior midfielder Mariel Lako (Rochester, N.Y./Penfield) has scored seven goals and totaled 18 points.
Goalkeeper Alex Bissias has posted a 0.77 goals against average
and .811 save percentage for Bryant. The Bulldogs have allowed only
21 goals this season, outscoring the opposition 26-21. Michael
Anania leads Bryant with five goals. Four Bulldogs have scored
three times each.
The winner of Wednesday’s semifinal meets the winner of the
#5 UMass Lowell at #1 Franklin Pierce contest. If Franklin Pierce
wins, the winner will travel there for the Northeast-10 Conference
Championship on Sunday. If UMass Lowell wins and Le Moyne wins, the
Dolphins will host the Riverhawks in Sunday’s title tilt.
