MEN’S SOCCER: MACIAS HAS HAND IN BOTH GOALS, MANN SETS SHUTOUT MARK AS LE MOYNE ADVANCES 2-0 OVER AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL IN THE NORTHEAST-10 CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Sophomore midfielder Eric Macias (Silver Spring, Md./Wheaton) had a hand in both goals as third-seeded Le Moyne knocked off No. 6 seed American International 2-0 in a Northeast-10 Conference men’s soccer quarterfinal at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex. The Dolphins (12-5-2) move on to host Bryant in the conference semifinals on Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Senior goalkeeper Tim Mann (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch) made seven saves to register his program single-season record ninth shutout of the season.

Macias contributed to both Le Moyne first-half goals. In the 19th minute, he lofted a free kick into the box where freshman Brandon Morse (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) headed it home for his second goal of the season. The Dolphins advance to the Northeast-10 Conference Semifinals for the second consecutive season.

Fifteen minutes later, Macias collected a pass on the left side and made a dangerous move into the penalty area where he was taken down by an American International defender. Macias converted the ensuing penalty kick, his fifth successful try in five attempts this season, for his team-high 10th goal of the season.

American International outshot its hosts 10-8, including a 7-2 advantage in shots on the goal. Mann turned aside three shots in the opening half and four in the second half. Morse’s header and Macias’ penalty kick in the opening half were Le Moyne’s only shots on target.

American International (10-6-2) was making its third appearance in the eight-team Northeast-10 Conference tournament – its first since 2000.

Seventh-seeded Bryant upset No. 2 seed Merrimack 3-2 (OT) to gain the spot opposite the Dolphins in the league semifinals. In other tournament action, top-seeded Franklin Pierce held off No. 8 seed Southern New Hampshire 1-0 and fifth-seeded UMass Lowell used penalty kicks to get past No. 4 seed Southern Connecticut.
