MEN’S SOCCER: MANN MAKES 11 SAVES AS LE MOYNE UPSETS #13 SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT 1-0

NEW HAVEN, CONN. – Junior Ryan Cunningham (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville) scored the game’s only goal early in the second half as Le Moyne upset No. 13 Southern Connecticut 1-0 in a Northeast-10 Conference men’s soccer match at Jess Dow Field.

With the win, the Dolphins improve to 10-3-2 overall and 8-3-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference. The Dolphins have won 10 or more games for the program-record fifth consecutive season.

Southern Connecticut, ranked 13th in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and atop the regional poll, suffered its first league setback. The Owls dip to 9-3-3 overall and 7-1-3 in the Northeast-10.

Cunningham’s goal came off a feed from senior midfielder Mariel Lako (Rochester, N.Y./Penfield) just under three minutes into the second half. It marked Cunningham’s fifth goal of the season.

Southern Connecticut outshot the Dolphins 25-4, including 19 shots in the second half. Le Moyne senior goalkeeper Tim Mann (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch) made a season-high 11 saves, including eight after intermission for his seventh shutout of the season.

“Tim Mann played unbelievably, he made big save after big save,” sixth-year head coach Tom Bonus said following his first win over Southern Connecticut. “The team played a great game, it’s a really big win for us.”

Le Moyne hosts Saint Anselm on Saturday at 2 p.m.
