MEN’S SOCCER: MANN MAKES 11 SAVES AS LE MOYNE
UPSETS #13 SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT 1-0
NEW HAVEN, CONN. – Junior Ryan Cunningham
(Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville) scored the
game’s only goal early in the second half as Le Moyne upset
No. 13 Southern Connecticut 1-0 in a Northeast-10 Conference
men’s soccer match at Jess Dow Field.
With the win, the Dolphins improve to 10-3-2 overall and 8-3-1 in
the Northeast-10 Conference. The Dolphins have won 10 or more games
for the program-record fifth consecutive season.
Southern Connecticut, ranked 13th in the National Soccer
Coaches Association of America and atop the regional poll, suffered
its first league setback. The Owls dip to 9-3-3 overall and 7-1-3
in the Northeast-10.
Cunningham’s goal came off a feed from senior midfielder
Mariel Lako (Rochester, N.Y./Penfield) just under
three minutes into the second half. It marked Cunningham’s
fifth goal of the season.
Southern Connecticut outshot the Dolphins 25-4, including 19 shots
in the second half. Le Moyne senior goalkeeper Tim Mann
(Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch) made a season-high 11
saves, including eight after intermission for his seventh shutout
of the season.
“Tim Mann played unbelievably, he made big save after big
save,” sixth-year head coach Tom Bonus said
following his first win over Southern Connecticut. “The team
played a great game, it’s a really big win for us.”
Le Moyne hosts Saint Anselm on Saturday at 2 p.m.
