MEN’S SOCCER: LE MOYNE STRIKES EARLY IN 3-1 WIN OVER SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Sophomore Eric Macias (Silver Spring, Md./Wheaton) scored the first of three Le Moyne goals 28 seconds into the contest to lead the Dolphins to a 3-1 Northeast-10 Conference men’s soccer win over Southern New Hampshire at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex. The Dolphins improve to 9-3-2 overall and 7-3-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while SNHU dips to 8-6-1 overall and 4-5-1 in league play.
The Dolphins jumped out to an early lead via a penalty kick conversion. Le Moyne pushed the opening kickoff into the Southern New Hampshire end, where senior midfielder Mariel Lako (Rochester, N.Y./Penfield) was taken down on a scoring chance inside the box. Macias punched home the penalty kick for his team-high seventh goal of the season. He is a perfect four-of-four on penalty kicks this season.
Junior Ryan Cunningham (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville) netted Le Moyne’s second goal in the 38th minute. He collected a through pass from Macias, scampered ahead of the defender and slid a low shot past SNHU goalkeeper Dan Pelc for his fourth goal of the season.
To set up Le Moyne’s third goal, senior back Klijdi Lika (Syracuse, N.Y./Bryant & Stratton) played a dangerous ball into the offensive zone where sophomore Steve Blackwell (Owego, N.Y./Owego) battled a Southern New Hampshire defender for the ball. The SNHU defender redirected Lika’s ball into his own net.
Bobby Dufour tacked on Southern New Hampshire’s only goal in
the 76th minute. The Penmen outshot their hosts 12-7,
but Le Moyne goalkeeper Tim Mann (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch)
made five saves. Pelc turned aside two shots in the setback.
Le Moyne returns to action Tuesday at league-unbeaten Southern Connecticut.
