Le Moyne’s road streak ends at 13, Ravens score three
times in second half to top Dolphins 3-1
RINDGE, N.H. – Christopher Joyce (Jarrow, England)
scored two of Franklin Pierce’s three second half goals to
lead the Ravens to a 3-1 Northeast-10 Conference men’s soccer
win over Le Moyne at Sodexho Field. The setback snaps Le
Moyne’s 13-match road unbeaten streak which dated back to the
final contest of the 2003 season.
The Dolphins (7-2-2, 5-2-1 Northeast-10) also saw their four match
winning streak and five match unbeaten streak come to an end. In
its previous 10 contests, Le Moyne had allowed just four goals.
Defending NCAA Northeast Region champion Franklin Pierce ups its
mark to 7-4-2 overall and 5-1-1 in league action. The triumph marks
the first time the Ravens won a match in which they yielded a goal
since a season-opening 2-0 win over Bridgeport on August 27,
2004.
Le Moyne jumped on the board 11:09 into the contest. Junior Ryan
Cunningham (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville) headed in a cross
from the right side by classmate Josh Harrison (Jamesville,
N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt). It marked Cunningham’s third goal of
the season.
Franklin Pierce scored three times in the second half. Forty-two
seconds into the second half, Simon Walker (Jarrow, England) bent a
corner kick inside the post to knot the contest at one. Joyce
headed home an Evan Luster (Newington, Conn./Newington) free-kick
at the 52 minute mark. He tacked on an insurance goal in the
70th minute.
Sophomore goalkeeper James Thorpe (East Longmeadow, Mass./Bridgton
Academy) finished with seven saves to preserve the victory for
Franklin Pierce. The Ravens outshot Le Moyne 18-11. Mann, the
Northeast-10 Conference Goalkeeper of the Week, made six stops for
the Dolphins. He yielded multiple goals for the first time this
season and allowing three goals for the first time since a 3-2
setback to Southern Connecticut State University on September 7,
2004 – 27 matches ago.
Le Moyne hits the road again on Saturday at UMass Lowell at 1
p.m.
