MEN’S SOCCER: MOSKWA TALLIES WINNER AS LE MOYNE SLIDES PAST SAINT MICHAEL’S 2-1

COLCHESTER, Vt. – Junior Robert Moskwa (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) scored with under eight minutes remaining to lead Le Moyne to a 2-1 win at Saint Michael’s in a Northeast-10 Conference men’s soccer match at at Doc Jacobs Field. The Dolphins (5-1-2, 3-1-1 Northeast-10) are unbeaten in seven of eight matches this season, while Saint Michael’s drops to 3-6 overall and 1-4 in conference play.

Moskwa netted the game-winner off of an assist from sophomore Steve Blackwell (Owego, N.Y./Owego).  Junior Shaun Simpson (Syracuse, N.Y./Bryant & Stratton) also scored for the Dolphins. Senior goalkeeper Tim Mann (Silver Spring, Md.) turned back four shots.

For the Purple Knights, senior Kimoi Seale (Brooklyn, N.Y./Prospect Heights) netted his second career goal, and first this season, off of an assist from junior Glenn Sherman (Arlington, Vt./Arlington Memorial). Senior Patrick Melvin (Belmont, Vt./Black River) stopped 10 shots for Saint Michael’s.

Following a scoreless first half, Le Moyne opened the scoring 9:25 into the second period on Simpson’s first goal of the season, assisted by senior midfielder Mariel Lako (Rochester, N.Y./Penfield). Saint Michael’s finally tallied the equalizer with 9:18 to go, as Seale stuffed home a pass from Sherman to score just the fourth goal Le Moyne has allowed this season.

The tie was short-lived, however, as just 1:39 later, Blackwell slipped a pass to a wide-open Moskwa in front of the goal, and with Melvin out of position, Moskwa found the back of the net.

The Dolphins outshot their hosts 27-11. Le Moyne hosts the College of Saint Rose on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
