Mens Soccer: Le Moyne 7, Wilmington 0
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior Mariel Lako (Rochester,
N.Y./Penfield) scored two of his career-high three goals
in the opening half to lead Le Moyne to a 7-0 win over Wilmington
in a non-conference men’s soccer match at the Thomas J.
Niland Athletic Complex. The Dolphins (2-0) have opened the season
with a pair of shutout wins, while Wilmington dips to 1-3.
Lako put the Dolphins on the board with a pair of goals off feeds
from junior Robert Moskwa (Syracuse, N.Y./West
Genesee). Lako netted the game’s first goal in the
17th minute and added another 19:27 into the contest.
Senior Joe Sroka (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool)
knocked home an Eric Macias (Silver Spring,
Md./Wheaton) corner kick to make it 3-0. Sophomore
Steve Blackwell (Owego, N.Y./Owego) tacked on a
tally off a feed from freshman Matt Pecheone (New Hartford,
N.Y./New Hartford) that made it 4-0 Le Moyne at the
intermission.
Moskwa and Lako netted unassisted goals and Macias converted his
second penalty kick of the season in the 81st minute to close out
the scoring.
Junior goalkeeper Shawn Barker (Baldwinsville,
N.Y./Baldwinsville) made two saves for the shutout in his
first start of the season. Wilimington’s Patrick
O’Leary (Dover, Del./Dover) made five stops in the
setback.
Le Moyne will host Goldey-Beacom tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. in its
final tuneup before embarking on the Northeast-10 Conference
portion of the schedule.
