MAYOR STEPHANIE MINER HONORS LE MOYNE MEN'S LACROSSE ON NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP AT CITY HALL
On Thursday, June 6th, Syracuse City Mayor Stephanie A. Miner honored the members of the 2013 Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team at City Hall for their National Championship. Joining the members of the team at the Ceremony was Le Moyne President Dr. Fred Pestello, Assitant Vice President and Director of Athletics Matt Bassett and Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Dan Sheehan.
Following her welcome, Mayor Stephanie Miner presented senior Nate Frechette a proclamation that announced Thursday, June 6, 2013 as 'Dolphin Lacrosse Championship Day'.
"We are always excited to honor the excellence of our student-athlete," said Mayor Stephanie A. Miner. "The work the Le Moyne Dolphins lacrosse team puts in clearly paid off. The entire community is proud of their efforts and their success. I am happy to welcome the players, the coach, and Dr. Prestello to City Hall."
The Dolphins claimed the program's fourth national championship following a 11-10 victory over Mercyhurst on Sunday, May 26th at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, PA. The Dolphins tied a program record with 18 wins and claimed the program's 11th Northeast-10 Conference Championship.
"The team's championship run exemplifies the character and perseverance that is the hallmark of Le Moyne students," said Le Moyne President Dr. Fred Pestello. "The players join me in thanking the fans, family, friends and alumni who supported the team throughout the season. I am grateful to everyone in the Athletic Department for their investment in our student-athletes, who are equally successful in the class room, having achieved 20 consecutive semesters with a cumulative GPA of over 3.0. On behalf of my colleagues at Le Moyne I want to thank Mayor Miner and the City of Syracuse for this honor."
