#5 MEN’S LACROSSE RECORDS 6-3 WIN OVER SAINT ROSE
Syracuse, N.Y. – Junior midfielder Andrew Chadderdon (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) had two goals and an assist to lead the fifth-ranked Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team to a 6-3 win over The College of Saint Rose on Tuesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action.
With the victory, Le Moyne takes a 6.5-6.0 lead over Saint Rose in the year-long "Upstate Challenge" between the two institutions with 1.5 points left to be decided.
Midway through the first quarter, Chadderdon got the Dolphins on the scoreboard with his 14th goal of the year from the left wing off a pass from the left goal-line extended from freshman attackman/midfielder Mike Jenkins (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa). The assist marked the 15th of the season for Jenkins, the most by a Le Moyne freshman since Mike McDonald '08 posted 18 in 2005.
The Dolphins doubled their lead halfway through the second quarter with a goal in transition. After senior defenseman Josh Klepfer (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) picked up a loose ball, he sent a pass to the restraining line to senior attackman Nate Frechette (Manlius, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy), who fed sophomore attackman Kevin Kelly (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) on the left edge of the crease for his ninth goal of the season. Le Moyne pushed its lead to three at the 4:06 mark of the second quarter as junior attackman Matt Klepper (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius/Merrimack) scored from the left edge of the crease after taking a pass across the back of the crease from Frechette. Chadderdon tallied his 15th goal of the campaign with 15 seconds left in the quarter to give the Dolphins a 4-0 lead at the intermission.
After a scoreless third quarter, the Dolphins took a 5-0 lead just eight seconds into the fourth quarter. Junior midfielder Kam Bumpus (Marshfield, Mass./Needham/Bridgton Academy) won the face-off and sprinted into the box before sending a pass to Prevost on the right wing. Prevost then fired a pass to Frechette on the front edge of the crease, where he tallied his 19th goal of the campaign.
The Golden Knights got on the scoreboard at the 13:26 mark as John Zullo scored from the left alley.
Le Moyne regained its five-goal lead just 81 seconds later on an extra-man goal by Prevost off a pass from Chadderdon.
Saint Rose completed the game's scoring with two goals in a span of 30 seconds midway through the fourth quarter. Brett McAuliffe worked his way around the right side of the goal before rolling back to his right and firing a shot into the back of the net for his 26th goal of the year with 7:52 remaining. Zullo then worked his way down the left goal-line extended before sending a low shot from the left edge of the crease into the goal.
Senior goalkeeper Jeff White (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius HS) recorded 10 saves to pick up his 50th career win, while lowering his nation-best goals against average to 4.33. Sophomore long-stick midfielder Nick Hourigan (Rexford, N.Y./Shenendehowa) led the defense by causing six turnovers, the most by a Dolphin in over eight years, while knocking two other balls loose that were eventually picked up by the Golden Knights. Nick Longo took the loss for Saint Rose despite making 15 saves.
Le Moyne (10-2, 7-2 NE-10), which returns to action on Saturday at Southern New Hampshire University at 1:00 p.m., can clinch a home game in the Northeast-10 Conference Championships with a win over the Penmen.
