MLAX: SEVEN DOLPHINS EARN USILA ALL-AMERICAN HONORS.
South Easton, Mass. – Le Moyne’s Jack Harmatuk
(Syracuse, NY / CBA / Syracuse U.), Drew Bezek (Lowville, NY /
Lowville) and Doug McIver (Altamont, NY / Albany Academy) earned
first team All-American honors as announced by the USILA earlier
this week. Brian Welch (Ithaca, NY / Ithaca), Matt Chadderdon
(Auburn, NY / Auburn), Brian Griffin (Camillus, NY / West Genesee)
and Marc Cizenski (Camillus, NY / West Genesee) earned second team
accolades.
Junior defenseman Drew Bezek, named the Northeast-10 Conference
Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season,
anchors a Dolphin defense that leads the nation in goals against
average for the ninth consecutive season. This marks the second
consecutive season that Bezek has earned first team honors.
Attackman Jack Harmatuk, a first team all-conference honoree, leads
the Dolphins in scoring with 49 points on 32 goals and 17 assists.
A transfer from nearby Syracuse University, Harmatuk has recorded a
goal in 15 of 16 games this season.
A second team All-American a year ago, McIver leads the nation in
goals against average (3.67) and save percentage (.693). McIver was
named the NE-10 Goalie of the Year after recording double-digit
saves in five games this season and holding opponents to five goals
or less in 15 of 16 games.
Griffin, a first team All-American in 2007, earned second team
honors this season as a face-off specialist. Winning face-offs at a
.600 clip, Griffin leads the club in ground balls (79) and has
added five goals and three assist from the midfield.
Second on the team in scoring, Brian Welch has emerged as an
offensive force in his senior season. Welch has recorded 47 points
on 26 goals and 21 assist. Welch is also second on the club with 56
ground balls in being named to the second team honoree.
Le Moyne’s top goal scorer, Matt Chadderdon earned second
team honors while posting 35 goals and five assist. Chadderdon has
recorded goals in 15 of 16 games this season and has scored 12
goals over his last three games leading up the national
championship game.
Long-stick midfielder Marc Cizenski earned second-team honors at
the pole for the Dolphins. In his senior season, Cizenski is third
on the team with 39 ground balls and has caused a team-high 24
turnovers.
Undefeated and top-ranked Le Moyne faces C.W. Post on Sunday, May
24th in the NCAA National Championshipgame at Gillette Stadium in
Foxboro, MA. This marks the fifth consecutive championship game the
Dolphins have reached. In an earlier meeting in March, the Dolphins
topped the Pioneers 6-5 at the Carrier Dome.
