MLAX: DOLPHINS TO HOST MERRIMACK IN NCAA SEMIFINAL ON MAY 16TH

SYRACUSE, NY - Fresh off their Northeast-10 Conference Championship on Sunday, the #1 ranked Le Moyne College men’s lacrosse team will host Merrimack in the NCAA Division II National semifinal on Saturday, May 16th. The Dolphins enter their eighth consecutive tournament with an unblemished record of 15-0. Ranked #4 nationally, Merrimack enters their first-ever national semifinal with a 14-2 record with both losses coming at the hands of Le Moyne.

The two teams will meet for the third time this season. In April, Le Moyne edged the Warriors 5-4 on the Merrimack campus. On Sunday, Le Moyne took the second meeting 10-2 in the conference championship game.

The Le Moyne offensive attack is led by sophomore Jack Harmatuk (Syracuse, NY / CBA / Syracuse U.) and his team high 46 points. Midfielder Matt Chadderdon (Auburn, NY / Auburn) lead the ‘Phins with 33 goals after registering ten goals in two NE-10 tournament games.

Le Moyne’s top-ranked defense is led by senior goalie Doug McIver (Altamont, NY / Albany Academy). The 2009 NE-10 Goalie of the Year leads the nation in goals against (3.56) and save percentage (.693). Two-time NE-10 Defenseman of the Year Drew Bezek (Lowville, NY / Lowville) anchors a defense that has allowed only 3.60 goals per game and leads the nation in scoring defense and man-down defense (.891). The Dolphin defense held Merrimack to only six goals in two games this season.

Limestone (10-3) and C.W. Post (13-1) will meet up in the other semifinals. This year’s winners will advance to the final, which will be held at 3 p.m., May 24th, at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, and televised live on CBS College Sports Network.
