Worcester, Mass. – Senior guard Nate Champion (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) scored 19 points to lead the Le Moyne College men's basketball team to a 71-53 win over Assumption College on Tuesday night in Northeast-10 Conference action at Laska Gym.

Champion tallied 14 of his points in the opening half, the fifth time this season he's reached double figures in the first half and the 12th time he has had at least 10 points in a single half. He added five assists (without committing a turnover), three rebounds and three steals despite playing a season-low 32 minutes. Graduate student center Jim Janson (Scotia, N.Y./Scotia-Glenville) registered 14 points, a team-best seven rebounds and a season-high six blocks. Sophomore guard Qwadere Lovell (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Mount Vernon) was the third Dolphin in double digits with 10 points, while grabbing five rebounds and dishing out five assists.

Julian Aiken led the Greyhounds in the loss with 13 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals before fouling out. Jimmy Zenevitch tallied 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds.

After Assumption scored five straight points to take a 14-12 lead with 11:38 remaining, the Dolphins rattled off nine straight points over the next five minutes to take the lead for good. Champion started the run with a three-pointer from the left corner, freshman forward Stan Buczek (Port Jervis, N.Y./Burke Catholic) followed with a lay-up, Janson made a lay-up and then Lovell converted a lay-up.

Following a three-pointer by Aiken to pull Assumption within 23-19 with 4:31 left in the stanza, the Dolphins scored 11 straight points to take their first 15-point lead of the game. Janson started the push by making two free throws, sophomore forward Connor Mahoney (Hanover, Mass./BC High/Brooks School) followed with a free throw and then Champion made six free throws around a lay-up by Buczek.

Zenevitch made a lay-up with four seconds left in the half to get Assumption within 34-21 at halftime.

After Marcus Murray started the scoring in the second half with a free throw, Le Moyne tallied 20 of the next 24 points to blow the game open. Six Dolphins scored in the span, led by six points from Janson and four points from junior forward Ryan Romich (Groton, Mass./Groton-Dunstable/Vermont Academy).

Following an 8-4 spurt by Assumption to make the score 58-34 with 8:04 remaining, the Dolphins scored six points in a row for their largest lead of the game with 6:02 left. Romich made a free throw, Lovell buried a three-pointer and then Buczek converted a lay-up.

Assumption outscored the Dolphins, 15-5, over the final 4:19 to deliver the final score. Emiliano Void had seven of Assumption's 15 points, while Aiken and Jack Sullivan each hit three-pointers.

Le Moyne (8-7, 5-4 NE-10), which has won back-to-back games in Worcester after dropping six straight games at Laska Gym, returns home to face Merrimack College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
